Ice boots are designed for applying cold therapy to horse’s legs. Cold therapy offers a natural treatment that is non-invasive and does not use drugs. In much the same way we would ice a strain to reduce inflammation and swelling, or would ice an area that has received a knock and is bruising, we can use ice boots to do the same for a horse. So where a horse’s tendons, ligaments or joints have received acute injuries, or where strain has caused inflammation and swelling, we can use ice boots to apply cold therapy and aid in healing and pain relief. Ice boots can also be effective in reducing pain associated with chronic leg conditions.
Ice boots are designed to work well with crushed ice. When you are ready to use the boots, fill each of the pockets with a thin layer of crushed ice. It is not necessary to over pack the pockets as ice boots are very well insulated and will remain effective with just a thin layer of ice. Then attach the ice boots to the legs requiring cold therapy. It is recommended that ice boots remain on for a minimum of 20 minutes and no longer than 30 minutes.
Once treatment is completed, rinse the boots and allow them to dry out of direct sunlight.
